(position in search engine for a keyword we have been focused on)
(number of new backlinks generated to increase position in Google)
We have a good sales pipeline established for the new year so why not be in a position to pick and choose the projects you want to work on. The reason for this new obsession about being number 1 in Google ? Quite simply, once a marketer always a marketer.
Have you done the maths on being number one in Google ?
We have a restaurant client. He's number one in Google for a phrase. Last month he had 70 booking enquiries (people who filled in a form on his website) of which 65 booked a table. The average spend per booking was £55. 70 x £55 = £3850. This figure excludes telephone bookings. What is your maths ?
Back to my story. I've spent the last 3 years focused entirely on how client's websites should be designed, how the pages should be optimised and how the website should be built so that they are easier for clients to manage themselves.
However no matter how great you design and build a website, it's owners will always be unhappy about the amount of website traffic they get.
Not enough traffic means not enough phone calls or leads or online sales. Which means not enough business and revenue coming into the business. Regardless of all these new social media tools are changing the way we communicate, Google is not broken.
It still delivers qualified traffic to a website that offers up a solution to the searcher's problem. Whilst there are a thousand and one other channels and tactics to drive website traffic, in my experience, most business owners do not take marketing their website very seriously.
If they did take the internet seriously they would have a monthly plan and budget to acquire and upset customers.
And in my world, I just don't see this happening. What I see happening is business owners being lured into social media because of it's "free price tag".
Well, who would not be drawn by the lure of free ? All these gurus can drone on and on telling everyone that's social media is all about engagement, interaction, sharing and getting up close and personal.
I am afraid intangible qualities like these cannot be deposited into your bank account.
Because to this day, the number one problem small to medium sized business owners have is "lack of website traffic"
You have hundreds of tools, tactics and resources at your disposal to drive traffic. Why don't you use them ?
What you don't have is a plan of action and someone to implement it. I am very sure if you calculated the financial implications of being number 1 in Google, you'd find the budget to make that plan and get someone to implement it for you.To your success in 2012.
